Things seemed to be rolling along as usual until we heard in early February there was a virus coming to the United States. One month later, we were cautiously waiting to see what would happen next. Fast forward to mid-April, and four weeks into quarantine, we are all anxiously waiting to see what our “new normal” will look like. While we can’t predict the future precisely, we can prepare ourselves for the next phase in the global real estate market.

BECOME A SME

If you haven’t already, become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the country or region of the world you want to specialize in and know more about than anyone else. The CIA Factbook, online, is a great place to start.

STAY AT HOME, NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO TRAVEL, ESPECIALLY TO ANOTHER COUNTRY

If you need further explanation you probably live under a rock and don’t know how to safely social distance yourself from others and/or wash your hands properly! Enough said.

NOW IS THE TIME TO BE SOCIAL!

With real estate slowing down for most at present, now is the time to reconnect with friends and colleagues in real estate in both Houston and the rest of the United States and the world for that matter. Why not? You have most likely got a little spare time on your hand these days. Whatsapp is a free messaging app and is used a lot in Mexico and Europe.

GET YOUR LEARN ON

Again, you might find yourself with more spare time than you ever had in the last decade so go online and get familiar with Zoom, GotoMeeting, etc. as there are many online tutorials available. And practice with your friends and family members you don’t live with. It’s a win-win, you learn how to use a new tech tool and get to see and visit with people you love.

Now is the time to also take advantage of online education courses currently being offered to learn all you can regarding global real estate. HAR is hosting the CIPS Institute in mid June and NAR Global is a great place to search for online international education courses.

THINK GLOBAL, WORK LOCAL

Approximately 90% of your global residential real estate business will likely be inbound to the U.S. Experts are predicting this percentage could rise event more during and after the pandemic has subsided.

Remember, we may not know what our “new normal” in real estate will look like but we do know REALTORS® are professionals that care about their communities and the people that live there. We truly are all in this together and together, we will emerge.
