TREPAC supported 55 candidates statewide and finished with 41 wins, 10 losses, and four runoffs. Excluding runoffs, TREPAC’s win percentage was 80.3%. TREPAC supported 39 Republicans and 16 Democrats. (71% R, 29% D)  Below are a few election highlights of the most-watched races, with the HAR recommended candidate noted in BOLD:

In the Congressional District 29 race to replace Congressman Gene Green, who is not seeking re-election, HAR recommended candidate, Senator Sylvia Garcia, prevailed with 63% of the vote over six Democratic challengers, thus avoiding a Democratic runoff.

Receiving 76% of the vote over his Republican challenger, Congressman John Culberson, will face either Lizzie Pannill Fletcher or Laura Moser in the November 6 general election. The Democratic candidate will be decided in the May 22 runoff election.

Republican State Representative Kevin Roberts and Navy SEAL Dan Crenshaw face-off in the May 22 Primary election. The winner faces Democrat Todd Litton in the fall election.
With 77% of the vote, Senator Joan Huffman sailed to victory over her challenger, Kristin Tassin, in the Senate District 17 primary.

John Whitmire, Dean of the Texas Senate, with 75% of the vote, handily defeated his two Democratic challengers in the Senate District 15 election.

With three candidates in the race to replace Representative Kevin Roberts, who is running for Congress, HAR recommended candidate Sam Harless received 51% of the vote, winning the three-way Republican primary in the House District 126 race.

In the hotly contested House District 134 Republican primary election, HAR recommended candidate, Representative Sarah Davis, overcame Governor Abbott’s candidate, Susanna Kokupil, with 56% of the vote. Representative Davis faces Allison Lami Sawyer in the November 6 general election.
Democratic Representatives Jarvis Johnson, House District 139, and Harold Dutton, House District 142, defeated their challengers and face no opposition in the fall election.

Freshman State Representative Shawn Thierry fended off her two challengers to win her re-election with 65% of the vote.  She, too, faces no opposition in the general election.

Voters return to the polls on Tuesday, May 22, to vote on the top two vote-getters who did not win their first race with over 50% of the vote. Early voting in the primary runoff election is Monday, May 14 through Friday, May 18. The election outcome will determine which candidates will represent their respective party in the November general election.
