Last month’s NAR Mid-Year meetings in Washington, D.C. turned out to be far more eventful than usual. On top of excellent meetings with our elected officials, which is always the case, there were a variety of topics discussed at the NAR Board meeting that have an impact on our everyday business. I highlighted a couple of the issues in a wrap-up column that you may find here.
The importance of having an engaged and enlightened Board could not have been demonstrated better than at the NAR Mid-Year meetings. The local HAR Board of Directors also needs great leaders, and this is the time to make that happen. The deadline to file to run for the 2014 Board is June 10, so if you have the time, talent and tenacity to help shape the industry in Houston and beyond, I invite you to file your candidacy notification form that you may find here. I can honestly tell you that it is one of the most professionally rewarding decisions I have ever made.
When people think about HAR, most probably think about HAR.com and homes. What they tend to forget is that HAR represent the entire real estate industry, including commercial real estate. It is vital to the economy of our region and is an important part of HAR. We publish a quarterly commercial market update, and you may read the most recent one here.
Summer is a busy time for our members, but it is also a time when people think about taking educational courses. This summer school isn’t a bad thing to do. HAR’s award-winning Professional Development Department has a plethora of offerings this summer that you should consider. You may see some of the classes coming up the soonest by clicking here.
If housing in our region is going to keep up with demand, then most economists are saying that homebuilders will need to start building more homes…soon. That means there is also a great opportunity for our members to build upon the existing relationships with homebuilders for the benefit of all parties.
