“What exactly is REALTOR® Lobby Day?”
Texas REALTORS® have many issues that we are keeping an eye on at the Texas Capitol during this Legislative Session, which started on January 8th. We count on our Texas Association of REALTORS® staff to be at the Capitol every day blowing the trumpet for our industry, but on one day, one VERY SPECIAL day during each legislative session, over 1,000 REALTORS® from throughout the state of Texas descend upon Austin for REALTOR® Lobby Day to advocate for our issues, while at the same time getting to meet and network with over 1,000 other Texas REALTORS®.
“How do we get there?”
HAR has 6 buses leave from throughout the Houston area. The buses are chartered; breakfast is served, as well as snacks and drinks on the way back to Houston. As an added bonus, the buses this year will also have Wi-fi! When you register, you will choose which bus locations works best for you. Spaces on the bus will fill up fast, so register early!
(And for those of you who prefer to drive yourself, we have that as an option when you register as well.)
“So what do we do when we get to Austin?”
Once we arrive in Austin, you will have meetings scheduled with YOUR state senator and representative, which will be determined when you register and provide your home address. There are meetings scheduled throughout the day, and you will be meeting with the legislator, or one of their staff members, to advocate on behalf of The REALTOR® Party. Worried you won’t know what to say? Don’t be. TAR and HAR staff will select a “spokesperson” to speak on behalf of the group. This spokesperson knows our issues like the back of their hands, and will do the talking – but the power is in the numbers, so we need you to go!
Also part of the Austin trip is a BBQ lunch hosted by TAR in the covered parking area under the TAR building, right across the street from the Capitol. This will be your chance to network with your fellow REALTORS®, TAR staff, and legislators that come over to join us.
“How do we register?”
Well, this year we have made it easier than ever. Just visit www.har.com/lobbyday to get signed up, and while you’re at it, get a REALTOR® friend to sign up too! It costs $20 to get on the bus, along with a pledge to invest in TREPAC in the 2013 year. The $20 will get you: a commemorative t-shirt, a ticket for the BBQ, and an experience you will never forget! So let’s all go to Austin on Tuesday, April 9!
