On May 1, Harris County Commissioners Court voted unanimously to pursue holding a special election for the approval of bond issuance for the Harris County Flood Control District. HAR’s Board of Directors voted to support voting FOR the bond package at its April 16 meeting. The current amount requested is $2.5 billion. Harris County experienced record flooding in 2015, 2016 and 2017. The funds will go to flood mitigation and recovery efforts after Hurricane Harvey. As of now, the date of the election is set for Saturday, August 25, 2018, the first anniversary of Hurricane Harvey. The August election date is incumbent upon the approval of Governor Greg Abbott, so please stay tuned for future updates as we track this bond election!
