After months of campaigning and get out the vote efforts, the results are in for the local May 4 elections and it was a clean sweep for the HAR recommended candidates.
In Sugar Land, recommended candidate Steve Porter won 76.02% of the votes over Mohammad ‘Jazz’ Aijaz in District 1. HAR recommended candidate Stewart Jacobson did not draw an opponent in District 3. In District 4, Carol McCutcheon secured 64.04% of the votes over challenger William Ferguson.
In Pasadena, the victories continued for the HAR recommended candidates. Bruce Leamon withstood challenges from Blanca Sanchez and Steve Halvorson with ease, winning 54.93% of the votes. Sammy Casados of District D was unopposed in this election. Cody Ray Wheeler narrowly took down challenger Joseph ‘JT’ Thomas accumulating 54.53% of the votes. Phil Cayten easily defeated Sam Tijerina by taking home 79.40% of the votes in District F. District G Incumbent Cary Bass was victorious as he racked up 73.55% of the votes. Thomas Schoenbein of District H defeated Lori Laird by gaining 68.76% of the votes.
HAR recommended candidate for Pearland City Council, J. David Little, defeated Sheila Pope by a count of 66.14% to 33.86%. In the race for Goose Creek CISD School Board District 7, recommended candidate and HAR member Shae Cottar defeated Amparo Martinez.
In local races, voter turnout is often low. For example, in the City of Pasadena which is the second largest City in the Gulf Coast, only an average of 450 people voted in each race. Less than 500 people! This just demonstrates the importance of each and every vote.
