In September, HAR worked proactively to inform consumers via the media about a dramatic rise in real estate wire fraud that could potentially cost unsuspecting home buyers thousands of dollars when wiring money to bogus title companies. The effort resulted in print, online and broadcast coverage. Houston Chronicle real estate reporter Nancy Sarnoff wrote a September 19 story that ran in print and online. For her September 20 story, KPRC/Local 2 reporter Leigh Frillici interviewed past HAR Chair Chaille Ralph, who described how hackers are sending very convincing emails with instructions for wiring funds. HAR Chair Kenya Burrell-VanWormer was interviewed by KUHF/Houston Public Media reporter Florian Martin for a story that aired on September 24. HAR also encouraged consumers to report any suspicious activity to the FBI.

These stories and more are available in the HAR Online Newsroom at www.har.com/content/newsroom  as well as in HAR Connect.
