As we have energy and energy services companies reporting that many believe we have hit the bottom when it comes to the oil and natural gas markets, the greater Houston housing market hit a record high median sales price in June. Inventory is also creeping higher to bring us closer to a more balanced, healthy market. You may read all about the latest real estate statistics here. Pending sales also bode well for continued strength for July.
If you practice in the international real estate realm and have not yet earned your Certified International Property Specialist (CIPS) designation, this is your chance. HAR will be offering the five-day course on August 25, 26, 29, 30 and 31. What a great way to close out your summer than by earning this exceptional recognition that you have gone above and beyond when it comes to international real estate. You may read all about the course and its requirements here.
Even if you aren’t doing much international real estate, there are still MANY great courses being offered by our award-winning HAR Professional Development Department. You may find a list of upcoming courses here, as well as interesting information about professional development opportunities. Classes are taught at all four HAR locations, and our instructors will even come to your brokerage office, upon request. Many of the courses offered that help you earn your needed CE credits are free. Make sure you take advantage of this HAR benefit.
The BIG e is also quickly approaching. You might think it is too early to purchase tickets for the October 13th event, but it is always a big seller, so you don’t want to miss out. This year’s event has Jeff Turner, Bubba Mills, Alex Brennan-Martin and our very own Bob Hale, among others. Your $99 ticket price even includes lunch. We try to make sure it is an educational and informative day that is worth way more than the entry cost. You may find out more here.
I want to thank each of you who respond to the recent Call For Action regarding HR 3700. The legislation ultimately passed both the U.S. House and Senate because of the tremendous show of support from people like you. HAR was also proud to have won the challenge thrown down by our neighbors to the north at the MetroTex Association of REALTORS. As a result of winning this battle, more homeowners will have access to FHA mortgage loans for condos…and the chairman of MetroTex will be wearing a Texans jersey at the upcoming TAR meeting. Please make sure you look for these Calls For Action when they are sent out. We try to make sure they are only done when very needed, so we need each of you to help us make our industry stronger.
Until next month,
Mario Arriaga
HAR Chairman of the Board
