Starting Monday, June 17, HAR will once again survey its members regarding their global real estate practices. This confidential information is used to track international real estate trends in the greater Houston area and aids the HAR international program design relevant educational course offerings.

One finding from past HAR international surveys is that many members don’t always realize when they are involved in an international transaction. According to the National Association of REALTORS®, the term international or foreign client refers to two types of clients:

(Type A) Non-resident foreigners: Non-U.S. citizens with permanent residences outside the United States. These clients typically purchase property as an investment, for vacations, or other visits of less than six months to the United States.

And

(Type B) Resident foreigners: Non-U.S. citizens who are recent immigrants (in the country less than two years at the time of the transaction) or temporary visa holders residing for more than six months in the United States for professional, educational, or other reasons.

Questions asked on the survey include what types of properties are most popular with international buyers, what type of area do they prefer – city, suburb, rural, etc. and from what country are the majority of their international clients. Price ranges, how they pay for the property, and reasons for purchasing in Houston are also asked in the survey.

When you receive the survey in your email box, please take a few moments to answer the questions. By doing so, you are helping HAR provide enhanced global courses and opportunities for members involved with this growing segment of the Houston real estate market.
