Newsweek Cites Riverstone High Schools Among Nation’s Best
Schools serving the Riverstone master-planned community are once again making headlines as premier learning facilities, with both high schools ranked among the top 1,622 high schools in the nation, as polled by Newsweek.
According to the Newsweek list, Clements High School was ranked No. 314 and Elkins High School No. 916. The report represents only 6 percent of the total number of public high schools nationwide.
This latest report comes shortly after Riverstone schools fared well in rankings recently released by Children at Risk, a local research and advocacy group, with several schools listed among the top facilities in the Houston area and statewide. Clements ranked ninth in the Houston area among 140 high schools listed citywide and 22nd in the state in the Children at Risk rankings. Children at Risk ranked 1,018 high schools throughout Texas. Elkins placed 32nd on the Houston-area list compiled by Children at Risk and 146th among Texas high schools. All new construction in Riverstone is currently zoned to Elkins.
Fort Settlement Middle School placed fourth among 253 Houston-area middle schools and 10th among the 1,720 middle schools on the Texas list compiled by Children at Risk. First Colony Middle School also was among the premier schools, ranking 14th in the Houston-area and 51st in Texas. Commonwealth Elementary was seventh in the Houston area and ranked 30th among the 3,126 Texas elementaries.

Riverstone Gears Up for Sept. 25 Heart and Sole 5K
Riverstone is hosting the inaugural Heart and Sole 5K Saturday, Sept. 25, benefiting Second Mile Mission. The race is open to individuals, with team participation planned for next year’s event. Awards will be given to the first-, second- and third-place finishers in men, women and youth categories. Participants will follow a certified course through Riverstone and can enjoy a post-race party. Registration begins Aug. 15.
Second Mile Mission is a Fort Bend-based organization serving those in need. In addition to its food pantry, Second Mile Mission operates the largest clothing closet in Fort Bend County, provides household items to people trying to re-establish a home, gives financial assistance to those in crisis situations and offers dental and health care to the uninsured. Bridgeland Plans Post-Triathlon Party Aug. 8
Celebrating the achievements of the more than 1,000 participants in the second annual Memorial Hermann Bridgeland Triathlon, the community is planning a festive party after the race, scheduled for Aug. 8.
The Finish Line Celebration kicks off at 9 a.m. in Festival Park with concessions geared to replenish weary athletes, as well as the awards ceremony, entertainment and activities for kids. Everyone is invited to attend the Finish Line Celebration, whether racing or supporting an athlete or just looking for an eventful way to spend the morning. The party also celebrates the accomplishments of athletes participating in the Kiwanis Kids Triathlon, happening in Bridgeland Aug. 7. The triathlon begins at 7 a.m. and includes a point-to-point swim, flat bike course and partial trail run with shade throughout the master-planned community and along the Cypress Creek Nature Trail. Breakfast concessions will be available in the park from 7 to 10 a.m.
