Members of the Association of Commercial Real Estate Professionals (ACRP) teamed up at the Houston Food Bank’s State-of-the-Art Warehouse facility to assist in providing food to those in need on Sept. 23.
Built on a foundation of giving back, ACRP is an active community advocate participating in multiple philanthropy-driven events throughout each calendar year. The professionals’ group joined forces with the Houston Food Bank and with 30+ volunteers gathered to sort items and assemble food boxes that will be distributed to senior citizens in the Houston area. Marking ACRP’s first event with the Houston Food Bank, the commercial real estate organization helped assemble 943 boxes of food which provides 24,612 meals through their day of work.
“We are grateful for and proud of the over 30 volunteers that showed up on behalf of ACRP to help give back to our community by helping to fight hunger. We planned this event long before Hurricane Harvey hit Houston, but it took on even greater emphasis this year due to the additional needs created by the storm,” states Randy Young, ACRP’s Community Affairs Director. “The Houston Food Bank is an amazing organization – the ability to take hundreds of volunteers a day and within 20 minutes have them organized, oriented and effectively creating tens of thousands of meals each day is quite the logistical feat.”
As America’s largest food bank in the nation, the Houston Food Bank coordinates approximately 4,000 volunteers each week who donate their time to assist them with their mission of leading the fight against hunger. These volunteers sort, clean, weigh, prep, pack, fill, assemble, and inspect food items to prepare them for distribution.
The Houston Food Bank’s primary function is to distribute massive amounts of food to hunger relief charities including food pantries, soup kitchens, and senior centers. The Houston Food Bank receives, sorts, stores and distributes donated and purchased food and government commodities. Thanks to strong community partnerships, the Houston Food Bank stretches every $1 donation to provide a full day of meals for children, adults or seniors. The Houston Food Bank feeds 800,000 hungry people each year by distributing food through nearly 600 hunger relief agencies in 18 southeast Texas counties.
