HomeAid Houston Hits a Home Run with Bridgeland Project Playhouse Visit
HomeAid Houston scored with the 2010 Project Playhouse visit to Bridgeland recently, meeting its goal of raffle ticket sales to raise money for the homeless. “The Vintage Astros Dugout” was on view in Bridgeland July 10, where people could purchase $5 raffle tickets to win the playhouse, built in honor of the Astro’s 45th year as a ball club. The playhouse is the perfect getaway for the young baseball fan, with bench seating from the Astros dugout in Minute Maid Park (complete with cleat marks), a wall-mounted 32-inch HDTV, a Nintendo Wii, a DVD player and an 8,000 BTU air conditioner with remote control.
Project Playhouse is a major fund-raising event for HomeAid Houston, which works to provide shelter for the homeless in the greater Houston area and to build dignified housing where homeless families and individuals can rebuild their lives. International Art Phenom Tracy Lee Stum to Create 3-D Masterpiece in Million-Dollar Riverstone Home
The art of internationally acclaimed Tracy Lee Stum transports visitors to a world where trains and sharks lunge into the sky and tigers float above the ground on towering totems. In early October, this world of grand illusion arrives in Riverstone.
Considered one of the world’s foremost street artists, Stum will create a new 3-D masterpiece in a newly completed million-dollar Sterling Classic custom home in Riverstone, a Johnson Development master-planned community in Fort Bend County. Stum’s work will launch a two-week showcase of the home, with visitors able to watch the artist create her illusion from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 6-8. Those not able to see the artist in person can still view the artwork as the showcase continues from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 9-17. Tickets for both time periods are $5 each, with proceeds benefiting various charities. Visitors will have the opportunity to pose with and take pictures of Stum’s Riverstone waterfall creation.

Memorial Hermann Bridgeland Triathlon a Swimming (Biking and Running) Success
Approximately 1,600 people gathered in Bridgeland Aug. 8 for the second annual Memorial Hermann Bridgeland Triathlon, with nearly 1,000 finishing the swimming-biking-running race.
Sanctioned by USA Triathlon, the event included a point-to-point swim, flat bike course and partial trail run with shade throughout the master-planned community and along the Cypress Creek Nature Trail. A sell-out in its inaugural year, the triathlon again sold out this year, with the registration limit extended to accommodate more people. Finishers and more than 600 supporters enjoyed post-race revelry during the Finish Line Celebration, which featured local teen band, Broken Headlights, concessions and more. Announcing winners and keeping the event moving along was World Triathlon Corporation Ironman Announcer Adam Resier.

Free ‘Alice in Wonderland’ set in Bridgeland Sept. 11 and 12
Alice, the white rabbit, Cheshire Cat and all of your Wonderland favorites will come to life at 6:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 11 and 12, when area residents stage “Alice in Wonderland” in Bridgeland.
“Alice in Wonderland” will be staged at the performance pavilion in Festival Park, one of several park areas in Bridgeland’s Lakeland Heights traditional neighborhood development. Festival Park is located across the street from Lakeland Activity Center, 16902 Bridgeland Landing. Concessions will be available. There is no reserved seating for either performance.
