Did you know that for each of the 100 U. S. Senators and 435 U. S. Representatives there is a REALTOR® in your Congressional district who plays a vital role in communicating REALTOR® issues to your member of Congress? Through the National Association of REALTORS® grassroots communications network, there are 535 Federal Political Coordinators who are appointed to serve in this important position. Federal Political Coordinators and their Federal Political Contact Members put a human face on the issues that affect the real estate industry and let our federal lawmakers know that the choices they make affect the lives of real people in their districts.
This past December, members of Congress received RPAC contributions from their Federal Political Coordinators in appreciation of the lawmakers’ votes on REALTOR® issues.
The following Federal Political Coordinators presented RPAC contributions to their member of Congress in December, 2011 and January, 2012:
Vicki Fullerton – U. S. Representative Kevin Brady
John Nichols – U. S. Representative John Culberson
Shad Bogany – U. S. Representative Al Green
Carlos Garcia – U. S. Representative Gene Green
Gerald Womack – U. S. Representative Sheila Jackson Lee
Sheri Brummett – U. S. Representative Michael McCaul
Jim Cockrill – U. S. Representative Pete Olson
Delora Wilkinson – U. S. Representative Ted Poe
Appraisal, FHA, GSE, and Patent Reform, Fannie and Freddie Loan Limits, Qualified Residential Mortgage Rules, Seller Financing, the extension of the National Flood Insurance Program, and the SBA Commercial Property Refinancing Program are just a few of the issues addressed by lawmakers.
The week of May 14, REALTORS® from across the nation will converge in Washington, D. C. for the National Association of REALTORS® Mid-Year Meeting. Meetings with Houston-area lawmakers are planned for May 16 and 17. If you are interested in participating in these meetings, please let me know so that your HAR Governmental Affairs team may assist you.
