May 6, 2023 is Election Day in the City of Pearland. This year, voters will have a chance to cast their ballot for Mayor, City Council Position 3 and City Council Position 7 as well as four bond propositions. Incumbent Mayor Kevin Cole is running unopposed while there are two candidates in each of the city council seats on the ballot. In the race for City Council Position 3, incumbent Councilmember Alex Kamkar is vying for his second term and is facing a challenge from local business owner Jai Daggett. In Position 7, incumbent Councilmember Woody Owens decided not to seek re-election, making this an open seat. Two former Pearland Economic Development Corporation Board members, Antonio Johnson and Rushi Patel, are running to replace Owens on city council.
Also on the ballot will be four bond propositions. Proposition A, which includes the majority of the funds, will allow the city to conduct a number of different drainage projects to help with flooding across Pearland. Proposition B covers two new street, bridge, and sidewalk improvements in the city. Proposition C, if passed, would add major improvements to the Hickory Slough Sportsplex and Independence Park while Proposition D would allow for the construction, repair and improvement of a new fire station.
Early voting will last from April 24 through May 2. From April 24 through 28, polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. while on April 29, May 1 and May 2, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Polls will be closed on April 30.
