Houston Area commercial brokers and agents will soon have more flexible options for fulfilling their TREC Continuing Education (CE) requirements. Starting in August, a new commercial CE education program will be available.
The Texas Real Estate Commission’s required Continuing Education has long presented a challenge for commercial brokers because most of the programs are designed around the needs of residential brokers and agents. TREC has increased the number of hours that each real estate licensee must earn to 10 hours of elective credit plus eight hours of mandatory credit for a total of 18 hours earned over a two-year period. To help commercial brokers and agents satisfy their Continuing Education requirements, our revised program will include three options that a licensee can select from:
- Short (2-3 hour) elective programs presented in networking event format. These programs target specific property types and geographic submarkets around Houston. We will be working with some outside events groups, including Bisnow, to produce these programs.
- An all-day program of the mandatory Legal I & II curriculum. This will include a box lunch and will allow brokers and agents to earn all of the mandatory material in a single day.
- Online Continuing Education will also be available. This option can be used to satisfy missing hours, or fulfill the entire 18 hours online.
These options will be available on either a flexible “a la carte” basis or as an inclusive bundle that covers the cost of several of the short networking events, the all-day Legal I & II, and the online CE program.
Our next program in this series will be Office Workplaces of the Future on August 28th at 8:30 a.m. at the Lyric Center in downtown Houston. The program is organized by Bisnow, and HAR’s Commercial Gateway is the CE provider. The event will include two hours of CE elective credit (TREC pending).
