The HAR community is deeply saddened by the November 20, 2015 passing of longtime Houston REALTOR® Sam Feldt, 95, who proudly served as HAR president in 1968. Sam’s death came just 10 days shy of his 96th birthday, making him the fifth distinguished HAR leader to pass in 2015. Sam was surrounded by family and friends at the time of his passing.
A native Houstonian, Sam loved telling stories of how he sold newspapers on street corners and worked in a grocery store until his graduation from Sam Houston High School in 1936. He joined the U.S. Navy after Pearl Harbor and served aboard the USS Raleigh. He married Sara Roth in 1943. After the war, he attended the University of Houston and accomplished a long and distinguished career in real estate.
In addition to his HAR presidency, Sam served as a director for the Texas and National Associations of REALTORS®. He also won HAR REALTOR® of the Year, received a commendation letter from the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) and volunteered his time to serve as president of Seven Acres Jewish Senior Care.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sara, and great-grandson Gabriel Feldt. Sam is survived by daughter, Marcia Feldt Bates and son Larry Feldt, their spouses Larry and Gloria; grandchildren Jessica & Paul Perez, Rachel Feldt Eschete, Doug & Kristi Feldt, Mandy & Kevin Patterson and great-grandchildren Bentleigh Perez, Sara Jane Eschete and Nathan Feldt. Funeral services were held on November 22 at Emanu El Memorial Park in Houston.
In 2011, Houston REALTOR® magazine sat down with Sam and asked him to reflect on his life as president of what was then known as the Houston Board of REALTORS®.
