HAR’s Governmental Affairs and Political Affairs Advisory groups will be focusing their attention on the Tuesday, November 3 elections for Houston Mayor and Houston City Council, with this year marking the first open mayoral seat in six years. The efforts were officially kicked off on June 25 at the HAR Mayoral Forum, where more than 200 HAR REALTOR® members, elected officials, affiliated sponsors and guests participated in the successful event held at the River Oaks Country Club. Mayoral candidates, Chris Bell, Steve Costello, Adrian Garcia, Ben Hall, Bill King, Marty McVey, and Sylvester Turner, were given the opportunity to answer questions regarding city policy on housing, private property rights, taxes, budgets, and more.
The HAR Political Affairs Advisory Group (PAAG) volunteers will begin conducting candidate interviews the first week of August. Once those interviews are completed, the PAAG’s recommendations will then be presented to the HAR Executive Committee and Board of Directors for approval when they meet on August 17.
The deadline to register to vote in this mayoral contest and also on constitutional amendments is Monday, October 5. Early voting starts on Monday, October 19 and goes through Saturday, October 31. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3.
