Tuesday, March 5 was Primary Election Day in the State of Texas and, according to the Texas Secretary of State, the combined turnout among Texas’s 17.9 million registered voters was about 18%. Turnout on the Republican side virtually mirrored that of 2020, but Democratic turnout dropped by more than half from 12.9% in 2020 to 5.4% in 2024. Overall HAR had 23 recommended candidates in contested races, 17 of those candidates were victorious, four were defeated and two others will head into runoff elections. Here are the individual results for each race.
U.S. House of Representatives:
- District 2 – Dan Crenshaw – RESULT: Won with 59%
- District 7 – Lizzie Fletcher – RESULT: Won with 74%
- District 10 – Michael McCaul – RESULT: Won with 72%
- District 18 – Sheila Jackson Lee – RESULT: Won with 60%
- District 36 – Brian Babin – RESULT: Won with 81%
Texas Senate:
- District 15 – Jarvis Johnson – RESULT: First Place with 36%, Advances to Runoff
Texas House of Representatives:
- District 18 – Ernest Bailes – RESULT: Defeated with 39%
- District 24 – Greg Bonnen – RESULT: Won with 83%
- District 26 – Jacey Jetton – RESULT: Defeated with 39%
- District 27 – Ron Reynolds – RESULT: Won with 86%
- District 28 – Gary Gates – RESULT: Won with 61%
- District 76 – Suleman Lalani – RESULT: Won with 63%
- District 85 – Stan Kitzman – RESULT: Won with 67%
- District 128 – Briscoe Cain – RESULT: Won with 69%
- District 131 – Alma Allen – RESULT: Won with 59%
- District 133 – Mano DeAyala – RESULT: Won with 59%
- District 138 – Lacey Hull – RESULT: Won with 61%
- District 142 – Harold Dutton – RESULT: Won with 61%
- District 146 – Shawn Thierry – RESULT: Second Place with 44%, Advances to Runoff
Harris County:
- District Attorney – Kim Ogg – RESULT: Defeated with 25%
- County Attorney – Christian Menefee – RESULT: Won with 70%
Fort Bend County:
- County Commissioner Precinct 3 – Andy Meyers – RESULT: Won with 63%
Montgomery County:
- County Commissioner Precinct 3 – James Noack – RESULT: Defeated with 49.2%
Next on the election calendar are the May 4 local elections as well as the Texas Senate District 15 Special Election happening on the same day. Early voting for the May 4 elections will begin on April 22 and conclude on April 30. The deadline to register to vote in the May 4 elections is April 4.
