The Houston Association of REALTORS® Housing Symposium is more than just a conference, it’s a dynamic blend of education, collaboration, and strategic planning designed to empower real estate professionals during challenging times. The urgency for greater housing supply has escalated with the continued population growth in the metro area and worsening affordability issues.
The symposium originated in response to the severe disruption of our region’s housing supply caused by Hurricane Harvey in 2017. Since then, the problem has been compounded by rising home values, a significant decline in inventory, and more natural disasters. The event aims to bring awareness to the real barriers faced by potential homebuyers and the various loans and programs available to assist them.
The inaugural Housing Symposium in the fall of 2022 surpassed expectations, drawing more than 300 REALTORS®, real estate professionals, and community stakeholders. HAR was honored to receive a grant from the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) under the Housing Opportunity Program to support this initiative. Following its success, HAR has continued to host the symposium annually.
The 2024 Housing Symposium, scheduled for November 14th from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Community Collective for Houston, will feature key speakers and address pressing issues impacting housing in the Greater Houston area. HAR, operating one of the most visited real estate websites in the country, has been at the forefront of witnessing the effects of escalating home values and a tight housing inventory across Texas. Real estate professionals also face ongoing challenges, such as high property taxes, rising insurance costs, fair housing violations, and other barriers to housing.
